| With its pots of burning frankincense, comfortable wicker chairs and goat-skin trinkets, this homely little restaurant manages to summon the spirit of East Africa to down-town Brixton. Alongside Eritrean classics including Zelzel Tibssi and a range of mild to spicy stews, the menu lists pasta dishes introduced to Abyssinia by the Italians. Prices are very reasonable and main courses are all around the £5-£7 mark. Finish off an excellent meal with a shot of authentic firewater zebib. |

Cuisine |
|
| Eritrean |
| The cuisine of Eritrea is based on an exotic blend of robust and subtle spices. The cornerstone of Eritrean cuisine is injera, traditional bread that resembles a large, pillow-soft, tangy pancake. The menu is heavy on hearty stews called Tsebhi, distinctive for their use of berbere; a common Eritrean seasoning based on red pepper, paprika, cardamom and basil. |

| Try the Zelzel Tibssi - tender pieces of lamb sizzling with green chilli and onion on a clay brazier and a dish of spinach and ricotta perfumed with spicy butter. The motherly waitress regularly parades fragrant pan-roasted coffee beans around the room |
